Having an active sex life is integral for couples, and lack of it can also lead to problems in the relationship. Most of the people tend to think that male sexual problems are limited to erectile dysfunction, but there are many other sexual issues faced by men. Most of these issues are a result of physiological and psychological factors, which they may experience during sexual activities on a daily basis.
One of the most common sexual issues faced by men is Male Orgasmic Disorder, medically termed as Anorgasmic. In this disorder, the men don’t experience an orgasm even though they have a healthy sex life. In some cases, either there are long delays in experiencing orgasm or they are unable to achieve it.
Before going any further, let’s start with the meaning of orgasm. Orgasm is the tightening of the muscle which occurs at the peak of sexual arousal. An orgasm results in ejaculation, a physical process of releasing semen.
Causes of Male Orgasmic Disorder
The causes of this disorder may be psychological, physiological or related to health. Anorgasmia may be a result of pelvic trauma, diabetic neuropathy, genital surgery, multiple sclerosis, radical prostatectomy, or hormonal issues like low thyroid or low testosterone. Increased use of anti – depressants may also cause anorgasmia.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Male Orgasmic Disorder can briefly be divided into two types – Primary and Secondary. In Primary Anorgasmia, there will be a lack of personal distress, in other words, they may not worry about not having an orgasm, they tend to enjoy sexual activities. But in the longer run, men suffering from Primary Anorgasmia may find sex as a chore rather than pleasure. They may also suffer from depression in future and a decline in sexual desire.
Dr. S. Ramkumar suggests a combination of physiologic and psychologic sexual medicine for primary male orgasmic disorder.
Secondary Male Orgasmic Disorder don’t experience orgasm while having sex. This may be caused due to drugs, alcohol, loss, depression or physiological issues like erectile dysfunctions, hypoactive sexual desire disorder, etc. Men suffering from this may experience personal disorder.
In such cases, Dr. S. Ramkumar suggests a combination of mental and physiological sexual medicine.
