Priapism (permanent erection) is a long-lasting erection of the penis that develops or lasts even without any sexual stimulation. Doctors call it priapism if the erection lasts longer than four hours.
Stress, chronic diseases (e.g. diabetes, high blood pressure), psychological factors, surgery, spinal diseases, heart diseases and medication can lead to Priapism. This can also occur in healthy people. If a man gets a permanent erection, he should see an emergency room immediately. If priapism persists for a long time, it can lead to erectile dysfunction (ED).
However, this is not a fate that men have to surrender to. From treatments to medication to healthy lifestyle changes, there are many different therapy options available.
What is Priapism?
Erections are essential for men and their sexual wellbeing. The fundamentals of erection recommend that it can’t occur without legitimate blood flow. So intrinsically when a man is stirred, the arteries in the pelvis and the penis will in general unwind and extend to get more blood flow, to the supple tissues of the penis.
After adequate blood is made available, the valves of the veins trap this blood, causing an erection. It relies upon the valves and their capacity to hold the blood for a period, which is generally how much longer an erection will last. After the energizing time frame closes, the valves open up once more, to let the blood flow out and permits the penis to return of its original state. At this point when the blood flow isn’t healthy, the condition is known as priapism.
Treatment
Priapism is treatable in many cases. Modern medicine has developed promising methods for this. The EROS Sexual Health Clinic has examination and treatment options with which the causes of priapism weakness can be recognized and mostly treated successfully.
